Levity. noun [ U ] formal - As a trait of character refers to a disposition to exhibit lightness or humor in manner or attitude, often even in situations that are serious or solemn. People with levity tend to approach life with a playful, cheerful, or buoyant spirit, often using humor as a tool to lighten the mood or diffuse tense situations. Their lightheartedness can be refreshing and bring joy to others, but if overused or applied inappropriately, it can sometimes be perceived as insensitivity or lack of seriousness.
